New Sewing Ideas

I love sewing with a group.  There are sew many ideas that are shared and things learned!!  This week the ladies were sharing their ideas about bias tape and they solved two big problems I have with making the dresses.  I have a box of bias tape pieces that are all about one yard, since each package of bias tape does one dress and leaves one piece.  When I buy the tape I always buy two packages to do three dresses but when tape is donated there is often just one package of a color.  Now I have a solution to that problem.  Paula you are brilliant!!

She had one piece of white tape and one of pink so Paula cut them in half and joined them together.  Now the dress has both pink and white.  On the right armhole she put the pink to the front and on the left armhole she put the white to the front.  And when she tied the bow at the shoulder it looked so cute with both pink and white.  A perfect solution!!

The second solution was... how to use the narrow bias tape.  It is so hard to sure that you have caught both the back and the front of the tape when using narrow bias tap.  Carol came up with the idea of zig zagging the tape which definitely helps.  And Cora came up with the idea of ironing the tape open and using two different colors of tape... one for the top of the armhole and one for the underside.

I love the way the bows look with both of these dresses.
Thank you ladies for sharing your creativity, your talent and your love for the little girls of the world!!

Such great ideas! I've been saving my bias remnants, now I'll be using them! Love how it looks too, adds a fun touch....may just find myself doing it this way on purpose sometimes. :) Thanks for sharing!

I have been turning over a narrow hem and zigzagging the arm holes, thereby not needing the bias tape, which adds to the expense of the dress. Instead, I make my own and use that for the straps. Also I add a pocket of a different color/colors for a bit of decoration. I'm not sure lace is very practical for where these dresses are going. Just my 2 cents worth.......
