Fabric Needs when Making A Dress

If you are using fabric to make a dress, we have put together dimensions you will need

Size     Length       Folded Width     Bias Length       Elastic Length
1/2         14"               16"                       30"                    6"

1            17"               16 1/2"                 30"                    6"

2            19"               17"                       35"                    6"

3            22"               18"                       35"                  6 1/2"

4            23"               18"                       36"                  6 1/2"

5            24"               19"                       36"                    7"

6            26"               20"                       36"                    7"

7            28"               21"                       36"                    7"

8           28 1/2            22"                       36"                    7"

10         29-30"           22-23"                36-40"                 7-8"

You lay your fabric and cut the desired size.  Then serge a seam which I put down the back of the dress.  Then you cut the "J" shape for the armholes.  We often use the "J" that we have cut out to make a pocket.  Finishing the dress with any accents you wish!

questions?

I don't have enough fabric for two of them... but am working on two vintage ones from hand embroidered pillowcases... or maybe a very cut pink dotted fabric with a dancing pig border!!

I live in the UK and have just blogged about the charity hoping to get some fellow bloggers to make some dresses with me. I added this post as a link as I thought it would be useful. I hope thats ok? My blog is http://sewscrumptious.blogspot.com/

Thank you for posting these measurements. They are very helpful. One question, do you have any guidelines for how big to cut the armholes for the various sizes? I imagine that with the adjustable ties on the shoulders, there is some flexibility. However, I do not want to make them too large and lose modesty.
Thanks!

Did you get a chance to answer Ruth's question from April 12th regarding arm hole guidelines? Sorry, I may have missed it. I've added this link to the Dress A Girl - Wisconsin Facebook page and would like to add info on the armholes. Thanks! Therese

Ruth, at the top of the comments typed in pink, click patterns. It takes you to the armhole patterns for the different sizes. They are printable.
